John Hennessy is the author of three collections, Coney Island Pilgrims, Bridge and Tunnel, and Exit Garden State (new from Lost Horse Press/Washington State UP), poems from which appear in multiple editions of The Best American Poetry, The Believer, Harvard Review, The New Republic, Poetry, Poetry Ireland Review, The Yale Review, and elsewhere. With Ostap Kin he is the translator of A New Orthography (Lost Horse Press), selected poems by Serhiy Zhadan, finalist for the PEN Award for Poetry in Translation, and a winner of the Derek Walcott Prize, and the award-winning anthology Babyn Yar: Ukrainian Poets Respond (Harvard Library of Ukrainian Literature/HUP). Their translations of poems by Yuri Andrukhovych have appeared in NYRB, TLS, and The New Statesman; Set Change, Andrukhovych’s selected poems, is just out from New York Review Books. Hennessy is the poetry editor of The Common and teaches at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
