2022 Covid Policy
The following are our guidelines as of May 2, 2022. Please note that these guidelines may change before the program in June 2022.
Many of the Disquiet Covid protocols are based on those of the US Embassy in Portugal (most recent update 05/02/2022). We strongly advise you to read their guidelines as well as ours and to be sure that you’re aware of all requirements and regulations.
Local guidelines are also available here (in English) and here (in Portuguese).
COVID CONTEXT IN PORTUGAL: As of Mid-March, 2022, 92.6% of the Portuguese population is fully vaccinated and 60.4% have had the booster. Masks are mandatory on public transportation, in hospitals, in school classrooms, at sports and cultural events, in cafés and in shops. Vaccination certificates or negative COVID tests are no longer required to get into restaurants, bars, events, etc. (only for entry to hospitals and nursing homes). The DISQUIET team has already planned the 2022 program with COVID prevention in mind. Many of the venues are in large, wide-open venues with good circulation or in outdoor settings. In addition to these pre-planning strategies, and in coordination with the COVID protocols of the US Embassy in Portugal, we will also ask all participants, faculty, and staff to adhere to the following guidelines during the program:
-VACCINATION: Everyone is required to be vaccinated and boosted. (Send a copy of your vaccination card to disquietinternational@gmail.com with your liability waiver.) If you require an exemption for medical reasons please contact DISQUIET staff to discuss.
-TESTING – ENTRY: In order to board your flight and enter Portugal, the airlines and the country of Portugal require an EU Digital Vaccination Certificate or a negative COVID test (PCR 72 hours or Rapid Antigen – 24 hours). Foreign nationals / non-residents arriving without a test will be fined (along with the airline) and returned on the next available flight.
Please be sure to check entry requirements for any additional countries on your itinerary.
–TESTING – DURING THE PROGRAM – SYMPTOMATIC: DISQUEIT recommends daily monitoring of personal symptoms. Anyone feeling symptoms incuding: – Fever or chills – Cough – Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing – Fatigue – Muscle or body aches – Headache – New loss of taste or smell – Sore throat – Congestion or runny nose – Nausea or vomiting – Diarrhea should not attend any DISQUIET programming that day. Contact us by email or phone and we will help you get a testing kit.
-TESTING – DURING THE PROGRAM – MIDPOINT: Disquiet strongly recommends that all participants perform a rapid test at the midpoint of the program. Depending on availability of rapid tests, we will provide them for you.
-TESTING – DEPARTURE: The airlines and the US will require that you present documentation of your vaccination status alongside a negative test result conducted one day prior to boarding when you depart. We will compile a list of nearby testing locations in Lisbon.
-MASKING: While we are aware that many localities and institutions around the world have lifted mask mandates, DISQUIET has elected to require masks during all indoor program events except when actively eating or drinking. The reason for this is that international travel occasions a number of potential transmission contacts and were any case to get into our community, it could spread quickly without masks. Masks should be of a good quality, typically either KN-94 or N-95. DISQUIET will have limited masks available to provide if necessary.
Masks are currently required on public transportation in Portugal and in hospitals, pharmacies, clinics and other care facilities.
-POSITIVE TEST – DURING THE PROGRAM – Any participant, faculty, or staff member testing positive during the program will be required to quarantine. The Government of Portugal requires seven mandatory days of isolation after a positive test (mild symptoms or asymptomatic). For those who had contact with someone who tested positive, you are required to take two COVID tests. If both tests are negative and you are vaccinated or you’ve already been infected with COVID, you do not need to quarantine. If you test positive, contact us and we will provide any assistance that we can in terms of medical treatment, access to food and drink during quarantine (Lisbon has a fantastic UberEats service!), and relocation if necessary for the purposes of quarantine. After the seven days mandated by the government and a negative COVID test is produced, individuals will be allowed to return to DISQUIET programming.
